  • Mt Kenya forum intends to register 3 million new voters in the region in 30 days.

The Mt Kenya Unity Forum led by Mt Kenya Spokesperson Martha Karua has announced the rollout of a project dubbed Seven-To-Ten, where they intend to register 3 million new voters in the Mt Kenya region.

Currently, Mt Kenya is estimated to have about seven million registered voters, therefore, the group intends to raise this number to ten during the 30-day mass voter registration exercise launched by IEBC on Monday October 4, 2021.

Explaining how the project will be initiated, Gatundu South Moses Kuria noted that volunteers will be recruited to spearhead the exercise in Mt Kenya region and the Mt Kenya diaspora.

“The 7 to 10 Project will be implemented by recruiting 5,000 volunteers in 16 Counties with daily monitoring of the Key Performance Indicators from polling Centre Level to the County and Regional Level. The Mt Kenya Unity Forum will announce the website for volunteer registration within the next 4 days,” he said.

If the initiative is successful, Mt Kenya will boast of 10 million registered voters by November 2021. This would mean that any candidate interested in the presidency come 2022, must get a good chunk of these votes in order to strengthen his/her bid.

Meanwhile, IEBC targets to enroll 6 million new voters, who have attained 18 years and have acquired national identification card, have valid passports, or other citizens who were not registered in the previous drives.

The exercise will run for a period of 30 days until 2nd November 2021 in all the 1,450 County Assembly Wards (CAW).

The electoral body aims at increasing the number of registered voters from the current 19.6 million to 26.9 million.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati called upon Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and register ahead of the 2022 general election.

“I urge all eligible Kenyans who have not registered as voters to turn up in large numbers and register,” Chebukati recently said.
