President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday October 12, 2021 issued a brief statement on the Pandora Papers expose, noting that his name was never mentioned in the leaked documents.
Addressing international media during the UN Security Council debate on Tuesday in New York, the Head of State further noted that the Pandora Papers did not link him to any illegality, adding that he’ll address the matter fully when he jets back home.
"First and foremost my name is not there. Secondly, there has been no mention of any illegality or wrong doing on part, and as I said before I left Kenya to come and attend this meeting, I will be addressing that issue comprehensively once I arrive back home,” he said.

Before leaving Kenya a few days ago, the Head of State through his press service issued a statement indicating that illicit funds, proceeds of crime and corruption thrive in environments of secrecy and darkness, adding that follow-up audits will reveal those who cannot explain their wealth.
"Whilst I will respond comprehensively on my return from my State Visit to the Americas, let me say this: That these reports will go a long way in enhancing the financial transparency and openness that we require in Kenya and around the globe. The movement of illicit funds, proceeds of crime and corruption thrive in an environment of secrecy and darkness.
"The Pandora Papers and subsequent follow up audits will lift that veil of secrecy and darkness for those who cannot explain their assets or wealth,” the President said.
The Pandora Papers linked President Kenyatta’s family with 13 offshore accounts; one of which has assets valued at over $30m which translates to Kshs3.3 billion.
