Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has announced that Huduma Namba will not be used in next year's general election.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, Oguna stated that that there was a delay in the Huduma Namba process due to a court injunction which caused a delay in the process.
"Concerns regarding whether Huduma Namba will be used in the coming general election, the position is that it will not be used. While it would have been most preferred document, there was delay in the Huduma Namba process after the court issued an injunction in May 2019.
"The injunction was lifted in Jan 2020, but with the condition that regulations on the management of data be developed. This was completed and the process resumed in November 2020. This delay had an impact on the process," part of the statement read.

Mr. Oguna said that as of today, 11.2 million huduma cards had been processed and 6.5 million collected.
"The process of issuance of Huduma Card is going on well. As of today, 11.2 million cards have been processed, and 6.5 collected. Kenyans whose cards are ready are urged to collect them," the Government spokesperson stated.
Commenting on the ongoing voter registration exercise, Oguna urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and register with low turnout being experienced.
