Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has revisited the 2013 presidential election, noting that he and a couple of other leaders pushed President Uhuru Kenyatta to go for the seat when he was a little bit hesitant.

Speaking on Monday, Linturi revisited an incident where Uhuru said he was ready to endorse ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, claiming that it took his initiative to ensure the president did not take that route.

According to Linturi, he together with four other leaders pitched camp at the president’s home for an entire day and convinced him to contest the seat.

He further alleged that they even took the president out to register as a voter, as he was yet to take part in the registration exercise.

“We pushed him there, we even got him out of his house. I’m the one who lead a group of five people. You remember when he went to multi-media and told delegates that there were demons that have gotten into him, I’m the one with Kabogo, Bahari, Naomi that went and told him no you can’t hand over this thing to Mudavadi.

“We told him you are not an individual, you are institution, there is no way you can make decisions with consultations, we had the whole day in his house and that is how we got him back, including taking him to register, he hadn’t register as a voter.

In the run-up to the 2013 election, President Kenyatta reportedly offered Mudavadi the presidency, but later recanted, blaming dark forces.

He (devil) came to me and told me that if we are elected, the West will not give Kenya money; that our tea can’t be sold abroad, and that Kenyans are not ready for another Kikuyu president, as this will cause more bloodshed. Given that I love peace, then I decided to quit and support Musalia,” Uhuru said while addressing delegates at Multi-media university in 2012.
