The six police officers linked to the death of the Kianjokoma brothers; Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura have been freed. 

The officers are; Corporal Benson Mbuthia, Corporal Consolata Kariuki and Constables Nicholas Nicholas Sang Cheruiyot, Martin Msamali Wanyama, Lilian Cherono Chemuna, and James Mwaniki. 

The six were freed on Thursday, November 4, on a Sh300,000 cash bail each after appearing in court. 

In addition, Justice Daniel Ogembo ordered the police officers not to interfere with witnesses or stay within proximity of where the killing took place.


Kianjokoma brothers Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura were murdered after arrest by police during night curfew on August 1, 2021.

On August 16, 2021, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of the six police officers linked to the mysterious deaths of the two brothers in Embu. 

The two brothers; Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura were found dead a day after they had been arrested by the police for violating curfew rules. 

An autopsy conducted at the Embu Level 5 Hospital indicated that the two succumbed to head and rib injuries inflicted by a blunt object.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) concluded the investigations and forwarded a file to the DPP after which he called for the arrest of the officers.

IPOA recommended murder charges against the six police officers involved in the death of two Embu brothers Emmanuel Mutura and Benson Njiru.
