President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked the Commissioner-General of Kenya Prisons Service Wycliffe Ogalo following the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison jailbreak.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has revoked the appointment of Commissioner-General of Kenya Prisons Service Wycliffe Ogalo following the escape of three terror suspects. 

The three suspects are Musharaf Abdallah Akhulunga alias Shukri, Mohamed Abdi Ali Abikas alias Mohamed Ali Abikar, and Joseph Juma Odhiambo. 

In a statement to newsrooms, Kenyatta was briefed by the Ministry in charge of correctional services on the security breaches at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, leading to the appointment of Brigadier(Rtd) John Kibaso Waribo as the new Commissioner-General of Kenya Prisons.

"His Excellency the President has today appointed and witnessed the swear-in of Brigadier(Rtd)John Kibaso Waribo as the Commissioner-General of the Kenya Prisons Service," the statement read in part.

The President recognized the compelling public interest over the Incident and the need for accountability in all security organs' leadership ranks.

"The Head of State also urged all state investigative agencies to bring every person that is found culpable to full account," the statement added.

Moreso, the State Department of Correctional Services has been urged to take disciplinary action against all KPS personnel who were on duty at the time of escape.

They will either be redeployed or immediately suspended from work.
