The family of a man accused of killing BBC Projects Manager Kate Mitchell has accused the police of frustrating their efforts to establish what led to the death of their son.
Speaking to Nation, Mr Dan Mauti, father to the late Tamati Mauti noted that the family is yet to receive any credible update from the police regarding the death of their son.
Mr Mauti noted that his son was a good man with a promising future, adding that the family is still in shock with reports linking to the murder of Kate Mitchell.
According to the father, the family only knew Michelle Akinyi; the Tamati was set to marry later this year.
The Mauti family has called upon the police to provide them with information on what really happened to their son, arguing that it is unfair for them to learn of new developments from the press.

“I am in total darkness regarding what happened to my son. The police keep telling us they are investigating the matter and have not briefed us anything. .. We are very surprised by all these details about my son, about the British national, and are frustrated by the police’s denial to keep us informed.
“We are traumatised, our family has been tarnished. We cannot eat. We are receiving numerous calls from everywhere, from friends who want to know what exactly happened. We want the police to update us, why would we be informed by the press regarding our son?” Mauti told Nation.
The family is planning to bury the deceased on December 1, 2021 at their home in Ongata Rongai.
Meanwhile, Kate’s family on Monday released a statement noting that they are working with relevant authorities and the BBC to understand what transpired.
"We are working with FCDO and with Kate’s colleagues at BBC Media Action to understand what happened. The circumstances surrounding her death are still being investigated, and we would ask you to ignore speculation in parts of the press and on social media," the statement issued by Kate’s brother Peter Mitchell read in part.
Peter added that the sister Kate was a deeply beloved daughter, sister, and friend who loved her work.
"Kate loved her work and was tireless in her efforts to make the world a better place. She leaves behind many, many beloved friends and colleagues around the world. We want to extend our sympathies to everyone who knew, worked with, and loved her, and our sincere thanks for the many messages of comfort we have received. We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy as we grieve Kate's loss," he stated.
