Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been crowned as the new Western region kingpin.
The announcement was made by the Western Kenya Council of Elders representative Peter Ludava, who also read the region's declaration, at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega County.
The declaration now pushes the ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi on the periphery.
The declaration was signed by Council's chair Patrick Wangamati and patron Francis Atwoli, the Cotu Secretary-General.

Mudavadi was crowned the Luhya kingpin in December 2016 but he has been accused of failing to steer the community in the right direction.
Oparanya has been tasked with fronting the Western region's grievances at the negotiation table of the 2022 succession politics.
Raila was, on the other hand, endorsed as the region's preferred presidential candidate.
The elders announced that those who will not support the declaration including Raila's bid should not be considered for elective positions.
The Bukhungu ll was convened by the COTU SG Atwoli.
