15 suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed by security forces at Bodhei in Boni forest, Lamu County, on the evening of Monday, January 17, 2022.

According to the authorities, the security team was part of a multi-agency force that is dubbed Amani Boni deployed in 2015 to flush out militia from the vast forest.

The raid was confirmed by a senior KDF commander overseeing the operations.

During the raid, several other Al-Shabaab militiamen are said to have been injured and security agencies are on their trail.

The raid also saw the destruction of two Al-Shabaab command and logistics bases in Bodhei, Lamu East.

The ground troops received support from helicopters and artillery strikes that saw the 15 suspected militants killed. The camp was located 40 kilometers from Bodhei shopping centre.

A KDF commander who sought anonymity said some of the slain militants are suspected to be part of the gang behind the recent spate of attacks in Lamu west that have left over 15 people dead.

“We believe they were part of those who attacked villages here recently. Our officers have successfully conducted a raid and destroyed two Al-Shabaab command and logistics bases in Bodhei,” said the commander.

Improvised Explosive Devices-IEDs, communication equipment, several uniforms, AK 47 rifles, two machine guns and bullets were recovered during the raid.

Another multi-agency team has been deployed to go after 10 militants who escaped during the raid. The security agencies are set to comb through the areas of Taksile, Mangulo, Hadhi and across the border.
