Members of the County Assembly and Governors have only today to resign if they are interested in vying for parliamentary or governor seats.
The High Court in the cases of Kennedy Irungu Ngodi & another vs Mary Waithera Njoroge & 11 others [2021] held that a sitting president, governor or a member of the County Assembly who intends to vie for any position in the General Elections, next upon the expiry of the current electoral cycle, need not resign before the general election.
This means that a governor who has declared interest in a parliamentary or senate seat will have to quit by February 9.
Most of the governors are ones serving their second and last term in office.

Ambitious MCAs who are seeking parliamentary seats will also have to resign on the same date.
The directive comes at a time when Cabinet Secretaries, CASs and Principal Secretaries are resigning from the government to focus on their political ambition.
Among cabinet secretaries who have resigned include Devolution CS Charles Keter, Petroleum and Mining's John Munyes, industrialization's Adan Mohammed and a host of CASs and PSs.
