Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over the Mount Kenya votes after he abandoned Deputy President William Ruto.

Waiguru stated that the people of Central Kenya are united behind DP Ruto and will not vote for Azimio La Umoja in the August 9, 2022, General Elections.

Her remarks come days after President Kenyatta vowed to hit the ground running and campaign for the candidate he feels is best to succeed him.

The Kirinyaga Governor told off the head of state, reiterating that the second in command's supporters in Mt Kenya will not cower.

“We have nothing to fear. In fact, the President will be surprised that the mountain moved a long time ago and it’s solidly in UDA,” she said.

President Kenyatta had on Monday, February 7, accused the DP of failing to support him in government projects, and instead politicking.

“I asked respectfully that we first work for Kenyans. But I was told I’ve no ability to stop them from engaging in politics. I let them go ahead with their desires. Now the time for politicking is here and you will hear from us,” the President said.

“I’ll vote for whoever my conscience believes in as I only have one vote. But if there is one, or even two people who listen to me, I’ll not hesitate to explain my choice of a successor,” he added.

He also assured Jubilee members that the party will revamp and contest the general elections.

“We have moved on and whether they revamp Jubilee or join Azimio is really not an issue. Whether Jubilee changes its name, colours or logo, it is a dead horse, flogging it will not change anything,” Waiguru stated.

“We told them, they ignored us. It’s now too late, the ground in Mt Kenya shifted a long time ago to UDA," she said, adding that President Kenyatta had failed to read the signs.

“Every village that you go to in Mt Kenya, there is no one talking about Jubilee and it’s just a matter of time; those still left in the party will come running to UDA. Jubilee is dead and buried, people have forgotten that there was such a party. People are supporting UDA because they associate with the bottom-up-economic model,” said Waiguru.
