After offsetting a fine imposed on Alvin, Sonko vowed to secure him a job.

Former Nairobi Governor and aspiring Mombasa governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has finally kept his word by employing an ex-convict who was recently jailed for shoplifting food items from Naivas Supermarket.

Alvin Linus Chivondo was handed a one-year jail term with an alternative option of a Ksh100,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to stealing food items worth Ksh3650 from a Naivas Supermarket.

Alvin's sentencing attracted public furore with ODM Leader Raila Odinga calling for his unconditional release.

Sonko came to his rescue and offset the fine with a vow to secure a job for him.

The flamboyant politician has since announced on his Facebook page that he has absorbed Alvin as one of his staffers at his Upperhill offices.

“We’ve offered Alvin Chivondo a job at our Upper hill offices and our team is now showing him what his job entails," he posted.

Alvin will now be part of the Sonko Rescue team tasked with distributing food donations to the poor.

The ex-convict expressed his gratitude to the former county chief as he pledged to deliver on his new position.

“Life is hard, especially in these times. I really appreciate the job and food and the help from honourable Sonko," he said.
