Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is a man who needs no introduction.
For the 10 years that he has been a cabinet secretary, the outspoken CS has become a household name in Kenya.
His demeanour and mode of operations have earned him friends and enemies in equal measure.
His popularity made many expect that the Interior CS could be among the list of Kenyans who will run for the country's top seat, the presidency.
But when the deadline for CSs to resign and venture into politics lapsed in February, many were shocked that CS Matiang'i was still in office, an act that meant he won't be on the ballot in the August 9, polls.
On Sunday, in an interview with NTV, Matiang'i revealed why he did not throw his hat in the ring for the presidency in the August 9, polls.
The Interior CS noted that he feels honoured that some Kenyans wanted him to vie for the presidency.
But according to him, he had to continue serving as a CS because President Uhuru Kenyatta trusted in him.
“I have heard those comments and am sincerely flattered, and I thank those who think that I can run for the presidency,” Matiangi said.
"To be called to serve your country is a very noble thing. I will continue to serve Kenyans as long as am alive and God gives me the breath of life and strength."
The outspoken CS appeared to suggest that he might in future consider running for the top seat even as he expressed satisfaction in serving Kenyans in any capacity.
“I genuinely believe that the future belongs to the Lord. And the Lord orders our ways and orders our steps."
"What we are supposed to do as human beings is when that call comes, and that opportunity arises. We rise up to the opportunity by the grace of God and do what is expected of us."
Matiang’i openly endorsed ODM party leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid even though he has lately kept off politics.
