Cherargei is likely to retain his Senate seat in the August 9, polls after winning the UDA party nominations on Thursday, April 14, last week.
He will be vying for a second term.
The Senator has previously faced incitement charges.
On August 17, 2019, at Kilibwoni primary school in Nandi County, while addressing a public gathering, Cherargei was accused of uttering words aimed at stirring ethnic hatred by the Kalenjin community against other communities.
The Senator however denied the accusations and said he was being politically hunted.
The case is still pending in court.
