IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday extended the deadline for submitting the name of presidential running mates.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has now entered the race to be ODM leader Raila Odinga's running mate.

This comes after the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance council, last week, formed an advisory panel to help in identifying a suitable candidate for the running mate seat.

Narc party has now forwarded the name of Ngilu as a potential candidate in the race to find Raila's deputy.

Others who have publicly shown interest in being Raila's deputy include Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also publicly hinted that he wants the seat.

Others also billed for the seat include Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Agriculture CS Peter Munya and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

The Issue of a running mate is proving to be a political hot potato in both the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the Kenya Kwanza camp led by deputy president William Ruto.

A number of leaders have positioned themselves as potential running mates giving the top seat candidates a headache in choosing a suitable candidate.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Tuesday extended the deadline for the submission of a running mate candidate to May 16.

IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati also said Governor seat candidates will also be required to unveil their deputies by the same date.
