A section of women leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance has endorsed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in the August polls.
The women leaders in Kilifi County said on Monday that they wanted a woman to be considered by Kenya Kwanza for the running mate position.
The women said that UDA was the leading party in the region and their next President was DP Ruto.
They added that they had united as women to ensure that Waiguru became Ruto’s deputy.
Maana umezaliwa na wamama ningeomba ukumbuke wanawake,” one of the women said.
The remarks by the women came after the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) moved the deadline of submitting names of presidential running mates from April 28 to May 16.
Among those seen as potential running mates for DP Ruto are Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Waiguru, Kiharu MP Ndidi Nyoro and Tharaka Nithi senator Kithure Kindiki.
