Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has expressed his happiness after one of the killer crocodiles in Siaya county was captured.
Through his Twitter page, the ODM MP conveyed his gratitude to the Kenya Wildlife Service KWS officers, saying the giant reptile had given the residents of Ralayo beach in Siaya county sleepless nights through a series of attacks that led to the loss of lives.
The MP said the crocodile which had mauled a 3-year-old boy in February this year, was shot dead by the officers after it was spotted at Royalo beach on Saturday morning.
" I’m a Happy Man! The Killer Crocodile Christened “NyaKombewa”, that killed a 3 yr Old has been captured at Ralayo Beach Today After My Appeal! Thanks KWS! And Thanks For Your Base At Owimbi!" stated Otiende Amollo.
This comes after the reptile in February, attacked and killed the boy at Ralayo beach on the shores of Lake Victoria. The body of the boy was later recovered from the lake after more than 24 hours of searching by the local fishermen.
It was reported that the boy’s body was found intact save for a few bruises. Ever since the incident, fishermen at Ralayo Beach have been decrying the rampant cases of crocodile attacks in the region and had been pleading with the government to find a way of containing the situation.
On his part, MP Amollo had promised to petition the government through the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to secure all the 31 beaches in the Rarieda sub-county by fencing off the areas to avoid future similar occurrences.
