Deputy President William Ruto and his UDA brigade have endorsed Konyu Ward MCA Eric Wamumbi to succeed the incumbent Mathira constituency MP Rigathi Gachagua in August general polls.
Speaking on Saturday, May 21 during Kenya Kwanza's campaign rallies in Nyeri, Ruto hailed the youthful MCA terming him as a person who is committed to UDA.
In particular, Ruto praised Wamumbi saying he is a firm leader with a solid stance when it comes to political decisions. He said the MCA was one among the few MCAs in Nyeri who stood his ground and refused to be bribed to pass the 'ill-fated' BBI bill.
He said his firm character will go a long way in doing justice for the people of Mathira constituency when elected as the next MP.
"Wamumbi is a firm leader. He was one of the few MCAs in Nyeri County who refused bribe offers in order to endorse the BBI Bill in the County Assembly. His firmness will be of great value to the people of Mathira," stated Ruto while campaigning in Karatina on Saturday.

On his part, Wamumbi thanked the UDA family for the endorsement, saying he will strive to continue with Rigathi Gachagua's good development records in Mathira.
His selection came after the UDA party invited interested candidates to hand in their nomination requests a few days ago. The slot was left vacant after DP Ruto settled on Gachagua as his running mate in the August polls.
The youthful legislator will now face off with Jubilee Party's candidate, a 76-year-old billionaire, Wambura Wamaranga who will be taking her second stab at the seat. Wambura lost in 2017 to Gachagua
