His running mate Winnie Mwangi failed to resign from public office within the set constitutional timelines.

Senator Irungu Kang'ata has been denied clearance to vie for Murang'a Governor Seat.

This is after the IEBC established that his running mate Winnie Mwangi failed to resign from public office within the set constitutional timelines.

IEBC had set February 9, as the day when state officers were required to quit public office if they were interested in vying for elective seats in the August 9, elections.

Kang'ata has, however, read malice into the decision and blamed his competitors.

He said they have ganged up against him in an attempt to block his clearance to vie for the governor's seat.

"We have evidence that she resigned on time and we will be coming back tomorrow to prove it," he said.

Mwangi had been working as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for over 25 years before she resigned to join politics.

It is the EACC that forwarded a letter to IEBC indicating that Mwangi did not resign by February 9 as was required by the law.

Kang'ata is contesting for the seat against five other candidates through the UDA party ticket.
