The alleged female officer had introduced herself as an inspector of police in Nairobi.

The National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, June 14, issued a statement regarding an alleged female officer who was caught on camera harassing customers at a social club in Nairobi.

The lady had been captured threatening to arrest one of the revelers in the entertainment joint. She introduced herself as a police officer in Nairobi County.

“I'm allowed to search your phone. I'm allowed to search your bag, power of arrest. You are a civilian. I'm a police officer," the woman stated in the clip.

However, in a statement by police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the woman is not a police officer but a law enforcement officer working with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

According to Shioso, the woman was misusing her powers as a law enforcement officer after she claimed in the viral clip that she was an inspector of police.

"The impression created by the clip supposes that the said lady is a police officer misusing her law enforcement powers. This is to confirm to the public that the said lady as portrayed is not a police officer under the NPS as believed but an enforcement officer working for Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS)," read part of the statement by Shioso.

The police spokesperson further clarified that officers from NPS are seconded to the NMS perform some specific tasks, including training, and proudly discharge their mandate in compliance with the law.

“As NPS, we therefore hold officers accountable to such high standards to ensure efficient and effective service provision to the public,” Shioso stated.
