The embattled Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has responded to a request made to him by the Commission of University Education (CUE)
Speaking to the press on Friday, June 17 evening, Sakaja said he is ready to present himself to the commission with ten required documents on Monday, June 20 at 10:00 am.
This was after CUE summoned Sakaja demanding him to present ten documents to the commission as one way of proving he indeed attended The Team University and graduated with a degree.
Among the documents required of Sakaja includes; His application for the course, letter of admission from the university, evidence of registration (Students ID card), Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (ATS) Course description, Course units taken, Transcripts, Examination schedules, graduation booklet that has his name on it and different receipts including that of his tuition fees, application fee, graduation fees, and names of lecturers who taught him.
But responding to the CUE's demands, the agitated Sakaja hit out at the commission's chair Professor Chacha Nyaigotti claiming he had allowed himself to be used by the political class to intimidate him. Sakaja said he has all the required documents and is ready to face the commission.

"We qualify to run for the office of governor of Nairobi county. In his statement, professor Nyaigoti Chacha has confirmed very clearly that indeed I qualified because he has said that indeed I met the requirement of the law. On the 6th of June, I went to present my credentials to the CUE, I presented to them my Degree certificate and transcripts. They conducted the Higher Education in Uganda and the validity of my certificate was approved," he stated.
He, however, sympathized with Chacha saying he was pressured to revoke his degree certificate. The senator wondered saying it was the first time CUE is issuing a press conference in the matter of individual certification since its formation.
"I sympathize and understand the pressure that Professor Chacha is in. This is the first time in the history of our country that the CUE chair is issuing a press conference on the individual's certification since its formation. I understand and we pray for him," added Sakaja
Sakaja said the whole thing has been politicized and that his team is ready to deal with the issue politically. He urged his competitors to prepare to meet him at the ballot, adding that there is no shortcut for any state-fronted project to the City Hall.
He maintained that the elections should be free and fair and that it is the people of Nairobi who will decide who their next governor is.
"This matter is highly political and we shall deal with it politically. Our competitors should prepare to compete on the ballot. The State that wants to install its project at City Hall should not seek a shortcut through technicalities. They should be ready to compete free and fair,” He said
The IEBC's Disputes Resolutions Committee is yet to determine Sakaja's fate even when the senator has since moved to the High Court to set aside a letter revoking the recognition of his degree.
