Sonko moved to court to challenge IEBC's refusal to clear him to vie for the governor's seat.

A Mombasa High Court has issued interim orders stopping IEBC from printing ballot papers for the Mombasa governor race.

The order was issued pending hearing and determination of a petition filed by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Sonko, who is now seeking the Mombasa governor seat, moved to court to challenge IEBC's refusal to clear him to vie for the governor's seat.

The three-judge bench at the same time issued a gag order blocking the IEBC from gazetting names of candidates vying for the Mombasa governor seat.

Justices Olga Sewe, Ann Ong'injo' and S. Githinji also blocked the Wiper Party from nominating another candidate until the petition filed by Sonko is heard.

IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee's barred him from vying for the Mombasa Governor seat.

He is said to have failed to provide a valid degree certificate and because of his impeachment while serving as governor of Nairobi

The hearing of the petition will continue at 2pm.
