President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed his former Aide de Camp (ADC) Major General Peter Mbogo Njiru as the Kenya Army commander.
In the changes made by the Head of State, Mr. Njiru was also promoted from a major general to a Lieutenant General. He will take over from Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton who is going on retirement.
Mr Kenyatta also promoted his ADC Colonel Timothy Stelu Lekolool to a Brigadier as Major General.
The changes were made after a meeting by the Defence Council chaired by Cabinet Secretary for Defence Mr. Eugene Wamalwa.
"His Excellency Hon Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, on the advice of the Defence Council, chaired by Hon Eugene Wamalwa, Cabinet Secretary for Defence, has today July 20, 2022, made the following promotions, appointments and postings of the officers of the Kenya Defence Forces," a notice from the Ministry of Defence announced.
Five brigadiers have also been promoted to the rank of major generals and 15 other colonels have been promoted to the rank of brigadiers and appointed to various positions.
In total, President Kenyatta promoted 22 senior military officers
