President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on Naivasha residents to rally behind Azimio la Umoja One Kenya flag bearer Raila Odinga in the August polls.
Speaking in Naivasha on Tuesday, July 26, Kenyatta stated that the country was looking for a leader, not a marathoner.
The Head of State downplayed critics of Odinga who seem to have an issue with his age saying "uzee sio ugonjwa''.
“Ningewaomba tu kwa heshima, kuna mzee (Raila) mwengine ambaye anatembea, ata akiwa mzee, uzee sio ugonjwa…hamtafuti mtu wa kukimbia marathon, tuko na Kipchoge. Tunatafuta kiongozi ambaye ako na fikra, hekima, unyenyekevu na anapenda watu wake," President Kenyatta stated.
The President also took a swipe at his deputy William Ruto for what he termed as peddling lies in his rallies.
"Tumezoea mambo ya uchaguzi lakini hakuna kitu kibaya kama siasa ya udanganyifu, madharau, vitisho na matusi," he said.
The President commissioned an additional unit at Olkaria 1 geothermal plant in Naivasha.
The additional unit which has an installed capacity of 83 megawatts (MW) is set to raise the capacity of KenGen’s installed energy to 1904MW with its geothermal capacity standing at 799MW.
“This is indeed a great milestone for not only KenGen but the rest of Kenyans as far as developing clean energy is concerned. Clean and safe energy is increasingly becoming vital in energy development, and it is through this approach that we shall attain universal access to electricity in our nation and meet key energy needs,” Kenyatta stated.
