Deputy President William Ruto has said his fierce competitor Raila Odinga could not attend the presidential debate on Tuesday, July 26 because he does not have an agenda.

Speaking during the debate at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Ruto said that the former prime minister could not articulate his agenda to Kenyans.

He added that Odinga was a project and hence chose to stay away from the debate.

"My competitor is not here because he doesn't have a plan nor an agenda. He is not here because he doesn't want to answer difficult questions. In fact, he could not come because he is not a real candidate but a project," Ruto stated.

The Azimio presidential candidate withdrew from the debate on Tuesday claiming he could not debate a 'thief'.

"Mimi siwezi enda kufanya debate na mwizi. Sina haja kuongea na wezi. Tukutane na yeye kwa debe" Odinga stated.

During the debate, Ruto noted that he would accept the outcome of the August polls and go to court if he has any issues.

"I will accept the outcome of this election, I know the people of Kenya have made a choice, If I have an issue, I will go to court and accept the outcome of the court," he stated.

The Deputy President was at pains to explain why they have not made some contracts in the Jubilee administration public like the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

"I have always taken firm positions in the Cabinet and in public and Kenyans know me not as a coward. Every contract signed by the govt of Kenya is public and should be public," he stated.
