Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchuimbu Murkomen has named two senators who he believes might be used to finalize Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s impeachment.
On Thursday, Sonko was impeached by the Nairobi County Assembly controversially. According to Sonko, the impeachment was illegal since the right threshold was not met.
Murkomen, in a Twitter post, has termed the impeachment state-sponsored while stating that Senators Mutula Kilonzo Jr and James Orengo might be used to push through with the impeachment.
He claimed that the two senators might be used to send Sonko home since the impeachment mirrors former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's fate. He accused two of being used by unnamed people to send Waititu home.
“Gov. Sonko impeachment mirrors Waititu’s. It is state-sponsored. 2/3 threshold not achieved. Fraudulent figures announced. Impeachment is procured by force. Luckily Sonko has documented evidence well but doesn’t rely on Senate Orengo&Mutula with a call from above can do anything,” said Murkomen in a Twitter post.
Sonko was impeached on gross violations, but the political analyst believes that his recent war against the national government cost him the seat.
Sonko waged war against the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), headed by military man Major General Badi. He refused to sign requisite budget documents that starved the entity established by President Kenyatta to oversee four critical functions transferred early this year.
Sonko’s fate now lies with the Senate. Handshake politics will yet again be at play, as witnessed in the impeachment processes against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and ousted Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
