Uhuru in his speech reiterated his commitment to overseeing a smooth handover and peaceful transition of power to the next regime.

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has faulted outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta for not congratulating his deputy William Ruto following the affirmation of his victory as President-elect by the Supreme Court of Kenya.

In his speech on Monday following the Supreme Court verdict, Uhuru only wished well all winners but he did not single out his deputy for any goodwill message or even congratulate him.

Ngunjiri said the move by the President was wrong adding that he should have congratulated him.

“I know the 6.9 million of us who did not vote for Ruto are upset, big time. But in respect of the 7.1 million who voted for Ruto and to help Kenya move forward, Uhuru should have congratulated Ruto,” he stated in his Facebook page.

Nguniri lost his parliamentary seat which he defended on a Jubilee party ticket. Jubilee was an affiliate of the Azimio La Umoja coalition under Raila Odinga.

In his speech after the Supreme Court verdict, Uhuru reiterated his commitment to overseeing a smooth handover and peaceful transition of power to the next regime.

He said the handover process is already in progress under the Assumption of Office Committee which began its work as early as August 10.

“I intend to oversee a smooth transition to the next administration and all the necessary orders to facilitate these processes have already been issued,” Uhuru said.

Ruto's win was unanimously upheld by Supreme Court on Monday.
