Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has asked the Senate to suspend the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
In his submission before the floor of the house on Thursday after the swearing in of the Senators, Kajwang stated that the gazettement of Nominate senators happened 48 hours before the sitting hence the nominated members did not have an opportunity to contest the seat.
"Let the foundation of this senate not be a foundation of impunity and of denying our women opportunity to participate. What I'm raising is not a partisan objection," Kajwang said.
Elgeyo Market senator Kipchumba Murkomen, however, dismissed his argument.

He said issues raised by Kajwang cannot be ruled on by the clerk who is currently presiding over the session pending election of a speaker.
"The objection he is raising is premature to the extent that this house is now discussing election of the speaker. The issues he has raised does not touch on election of the speaker," he said.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale said the Kajwang' argument was not based in the standing orders.
"I can see the attempt by senator Kajwang. He is attempting to suspend the sitting of this house," he said.
"Those are our standing orders. Probably those are standing orders of doing trade in fish and all those things," he said.
