Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir held a meeting with Port stakeholders on Tuesday, September 20, following President William Ruto's directive to revert port operations to Mombasa County.
According to the Mombasa Governor, there has been progress made following Ruto's directive in reviving the operations.
However, Nassir noted that excess bureaucracy from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) was hindering business people from working.
"H. E President William Ruto issued a Presidential directive last week on the reversion of Port Services to the County of Mombasa. I welcomed this move as a positive step in the right direction towards reviving the economy of the region. I held roundtable discussions with Port stakeholders including the Clearing and Forwarding Association, the Kenya Transporters Association and the Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association to assess the state of implementation of this directive.
"We are pleased to find that there has been progress but there needs to be a concerted effort by the Kenya Ports Authority to limit excess bureaucracy and red tape that is hampering businesspeople from working. We will continue consulting regularly as we look forward to full implementation for the benefit of our people," the Governor said.
