A police officer has died by suicide after pulling a trigger on himself in Kapedo, Turkana County.
Police Constable Nathan Kiptoo died on the spot after the incident.
He was a a GSU officer attached to the Kapedo OPS camp.
Kapedo is a trading centre in the Turkana East sub-county, Turkana County and became infamous after several police officers were shot dead by bandits a few years ago.
The officers at the station heard of a gunshot from one of the tents in the camp and upon rushing to the scene, they stumbled on the body of Kiptoo lying lifeless.

"Please be informed that today 10/10/2022 at around 0430 hours at GSU Kapedo Operations Camp, a gunshot was heard emanating from one of the tents within the camp. It was later established that NO 121196 PC Nathan Kiptoo had committed suicide by shooting himself in the forehead using a G3 rifle S/NO 760919913 issued to him for operational duties, " a police report seen by Nairobi read in part.
The signal was sent to various police command centres by Chief Inspector Luke Mwalati, for OPS commander, Kapedo OPS camp.
Mwalati said the scene had been processed by the DCI.
The body of the deceased was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary (MTRH) awaiting autopsy.
