Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega Philip Sulumeti on Saturday had to break the protocol to invite Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua to speak.
Sulumeti was celebrating his golden Jubilee on Saturday marking his 50 years of service since his ordination as a priest in 1972.
Karua was part of the dignitaries who had graced the function but had not been given the opportunity to address the congregation.
The speech part of the function saw only Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa invited to speak to the congregation.

After addressing the church, Barasa invited prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi to give his remarks.
The conclusion of Mudavadi's speech saw the programme handed back to the church where Bishop Sulumeti was asked to give conclusive remarks since it was his day.
The Bishop emeritus briefly gave his speech and before he could end it, he explained that there was a need to give Martha Karua a chance.
"Can I make a mistake that I will suffer for myself by inviting Martha Karua? During the constitution-making process, I was the chairman and she was the secretary. So Martha, just come and say Hi to the church," he said.
Karua made her way to the podium to give her speech in which she congratulated the Bishop for his 50 years of service.
She acknowledged that she worked hand in hand with the Bishop in ensuring Kenya gets the best constitution.
Karua challenged leaders to ensure the gains of the constitution are well preserved for posterity.
