The seats fell vacant after Duale, Wahome, and Murkomen were appointed to the Cabinet.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gazetted January 5, 2023, for Kandara, Garissa Township, and Elgeyo Marakwet by-elections. 

“By-elections for members of the National Assembly, Kandara and Garissa Township constituencies, member of Senate, Elgeyo Marakwet County and member for she ward, Lamu County assembly scheduled to be held on Thursday, 5th, January 2023,” the gazette notice reads in part. 

The seats fell vacant after Aden Duale, Alice Wahome, and Kipchumba Murkomen were appointed to the Cabinet.

Speaker Moses Wetang'ula 

This comes barely a day after Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula gazetted Kandara and Garissa Township MP seats as vacant.

"Pursuant to Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(d) of the Constitution as read with section 16(3) of the Elections Act No. 24 of 2011, it is notified for the general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Kandara Constituency elected under Article 97(1)(a) of the Constitution has become vacant with effect from 26th October 2022," the gazette notice by the speaker dated October 27 reads.
