A man is in police custody after allegedly killing her mother aged 74 over a suspected land dispute.
A police report seen by Nairobi Leo indicates that Jane Kemunto was killed in Bomeroka village in Kitutu Chache South Constituency after a battle with her son over a piece of land.
"The woman's body was found in a pool of blood with her right hand hacked. She had several deep cuts on the head, a police report seen by Nairobi Leo indicated.
She died on arrival at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was rushed to for treatment.
The deceased son Innocent Oguongo, aged 34, was nabbed by residents as he attempted to escape and was pushed to Nyatieko police station in Kisii County.
The suspect, however, sustained head bruises when he attempted to flee from a mob baying for his blood
"The slasher and hammer and the severed arm were collected from the scene as evidence," said Mose.
Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in recent months with some linked to mental illness.
Domestic feuds have also recently contributed to the loss of lives with couples and family members unable to manage their distress.
Several cases of relatives killing each other have been reported in the last few weeks and the trend seems to be on an upward trajectory.
