A form one student of the Ngara Girls High School in Nairobi has died by suicide after throwing herself from the balcony of a dormitory.
The tragedy happened on Wednesday after the student had taken their supper and were readying themselves for the evening studies.
Reports accessed by Nairobi Leo indicate that the student slid on her head. She was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment and was referred to Aga Khan where she was pronounced dead.
The deceased left a two-page document explaining that she had decided to take her life following her parents' divorce.
The note detailed how she was affected by her parents moving separately.
Police pitched a tent at the school for a probe into the incident even as plans for a postmortem are underway.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei termed the incident tragic and said they are acting on the matter.
Cases of suicides have been on the rise in the country.
There were 174 cases of suicide reported in 2020 as compared to 196 in 2019, 302 in 2018, 421 in 2017 and 302 in 2016.
