The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a notice reminding all taxpayers to authenticate mobile numbers linked to the iTax system.
The reminder is a follow-up of the initial notice issued on June 24, 2024, where KRA said registered taxpayers are required to verify their numbers upon logging into the system.
KRA outlined the authentication procedure as follows;
- Log into the iTax system using your PIN number and password. iTax will display the current mobile phone number linked to your PIN.
- If the mobile telephone number displayed is accurate and the preferred number, click on the 'send of verification' code and a code will be sent to the displayed mobile phone number.
- If the mobile telephone number contact is not accurate or not the preferred number, change the number on the displayed pop-up to your preferred phone number and then click on 'send the verification code'. A code sent to the new preferred mobile phone number.
- Enter the verification code received on your selected mobile phone number to log into iTax.

In June, KRA initiated a data cleanup exercise for all the registered taxpayers' PIN registration details.
The details to be captured were a phone number, physical address, email address and the physical location of businesses.
Others included residency status and directorships or partnerships of companies.
According to KRA, the exercise is part of its broader strategy to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the tax administration framework.
Notably, iTax is a web-based tax management system developed by the KRA to enhance tax compliance and streamline revenue collection.
It was officially launched in October 2011, with full implementation occurring in 2013 after a pilot phase.
The system allows taxpayers to register for a PIN, file tax returns, and make payments online, improving efficiency in tax administration.
