Kenya Railways suspended its Nairobi-Kisumu train services earlier in the year due to damaged railway lines which were affected by heavy rains and previous flooding.
The corporation explained that the suspension aims to ensure passenger safety as repairs are made.
“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing heavy rains that have affected the rail lines. We are compelled to take these precautionary measures because the safety of our customers is always of paramount importance to us,” Kenya Railways explained.
The Kisumu Safari Train service resumed on December 17, 2021, after a decade-long suspension due to railway deterioration.
It offers a scenic 12-hour journey between Nairobi and Kisumu, featuring modern amenities like comfortable seating and dining options.
As the festive season approaches, the train's popularity surges, with affordable fares ranging from Ksh 900 in economy to Ksh 2,400 in first class, making it an attractive alternative to bus travel.
