The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) raised concerns over unregistered vehicles in car dealerships and the misuse of the Kenya Dealer (KD) number plate.
Consequently, in a notice dated Monday, December 12, the authority directed all car dealers in the country to register all vehicles in their showrooms and yards.
NTSA instructed the dealers to undertake all registration by Monday, December 16.
On the other hand, the authority called on law enforcement bodies such as traffic police to impound vehicles that do not have number plates.

Vehicles using the KD number plates illegally will also be impounded during the enforcement.
"To this end and through this Notice, the Authority directs all motor vehicle dealers to complete pending motor vehicle registration applications by Monday 16th December 2024," read the notice in part.
"Law enforcement agencies are advised to impound vehicles operating without registration plates, those illegally using Kenya Dealer Plates (KD) and charge the respective dealers and owners."
According to NTSA, KD number plates are allowed to be used in certain instances such as during trials by potential car buyers.
The number plates are also used when taking new vehicles (yet to be bought) for exhibitions.
