Facebook has changed its company name to Meta, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday, October 28, 2020.
Speaking at the company's live-streamed virtual and augmented reality conference, Zuckerberg said that the new name reflected its focus on building the metaverse.

"Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can't possibly represent everything that we're doing today, let alone in the future," he stated.

The Facebook CEO added, "We're now looking at and reporting on our business as two different segments, one for our family of apps and one for work on future platforms, and as part of this, it is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do to reflect who we are and what we hope to build.
"I am proud to announce that starting today, our company is now meta."
Facebook later clarified via Twitter that the names of the apps they build Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp will remain the same."
The company unveiled a new sign at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on Thursday, replacing its thumbs-up "Like" logo with a blue infinity shape.
