However, users of Kerosine have been spared in the review as the price of the commodity remained unchanged.

Motorists will now dig deeper into their pockets after the Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reviewed fuel prices on Monday.

In the new review for Nairobi, the price of Super Petrol and Diesel was increased by Sh5 each beginning March 15 to April 14.

This means that super petrol will now be retailing at Sh134.72 per litre while diesel will go for Sh115.60. However, users of Kerosine have been spared in the review as the price of the commodity remained unchanged at Sh103.54.

Fuel prices have been unchanged for the past five months before EPRA’s latest review. The last review was in September last year.

The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The increase in fuel prices comes at a time Kenyans are grappling with the increase in food prices and the hike will mean that the cost of living will even be higher.

The Ukraine-Russia war pushed crude oil prices to beyond USD100 (Sh11420) per barrel since the two countries are major oil exporters.

The prices are expected even to go higher in the coming months as the effects of the war are yet to be felt.
