Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has announced his bid for the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in Nyandarua County.
In a statement on Wednesday, August 19, Samidoh said his connection to Ol Joro Orok was central to his decision to seek the seat, describing the constituency as the place where his journey began.
"Ladies and gentlemen, good people of Nyandarua County, I am humbled to offer my candidature for the position of Member of Parliament for Ol Joro Orok Constituency. I am a son of Ol Joro Orok. This is home. This is where my journey began," he wrote.
Samidoh said his decision was not based on his popularity but on his experiences interacting with ordinary Kenyans and discussing social and leadership issues through his music.
He said he had reached a point where speaking about change through music was no longer enough and that he wanted to take part in the institutions responsible for making laws and holding government accountable.

"But today, I am not offering myself for this position because I am a musician. I am not offering myself because I am famous or because my name is known across the country. I am offering myself because I have lived, seen and understood the struggles of ordinary people," he added.
Samidoh said Parliament would provide an opportunity to represent the interests of Ol Joro Orok residents and contribute to decisions affecting the country.
"I now look towards Parliament - not simply as a building, but as the House where the people's voice must be represented, where laws are made, where government is held accountable, and where the interests of our communities must find a strong and informed voice," he further said.

Education emerged as one of the key areas in his proposed agenda, with Samidoh saying he wanted to reduce the financial burden on families and improve access to learning.
He also said he would support vocational and technical training to equip young people with practical skills that could help them secure employment or start businesses.
"I dream of an Ol Joro Orok where no child stays at home on a school day because a family cannot meet school-related costs," he noted.
Samidoh further identified infrastructure, water, markets and economic opportunities among the areas he believes require attention in the constituency.
"Development must not remain an abstract political word. It must be visible in roads, education, water, markets, economic opportunities and the quality of life experienced by ordinary families," he explained.
This comes a day after former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera declared his intention to run for the Makadara Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 18, he announced his candidature for the Makadara Member of Parliament seat, noting that he would seek the seat on the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.
"Let's do it, my Makadara people! Redefining Makadara Constituency for a better and improved livelihood.
"I officially present my candidature for the 2027 MP contest for Makadara Constituency under the DCP ticket- so help me God. Boots on the ground and eyes on the prize," he wrote.
