Citizen and Ramogi TV's Trevor Ombija is arguably one of the best prime time news anchors in Kenya at the moment.
His fluency in English and Dholuo, coupled with great interviewing skills have set him apart as one of the leading multi-lingual journalists in the country.
Watching him read the news creates the impression that he has had a smooth path to the top, but that's not the case.
Speaking to a local publication, Trevor disclosed that before he ventured into the media industry, he worked as a tout in Nyakach, Kisumu.
"I used to be a Matatu conductor in that area (Nyakach) for a long time. Stopping at the bus stage and interacting with boda boda operators and the matatu driver is natural for me because I was one of them," he was quoted.

Joining the Media Industry
Armed with his Journalism and Media Studies degree from the University of Nairobi, Trevor made his debut in the media industry as a Junior Assignment Desk Editor at the China Central Television Africa Bureau, now CGTN.
Hey held the position until mid 2013 to July 2013 when he left the station for Nation FM where he landed a radio news anchor job.

He worked at Nation FM until August 2014 when he moved to NTV as a news anchor and an associate producer until 2018, when he moved to Royal Media Services, where he's currently based.
At Royal Media, Trevor is in charge of Monday 9 PM news (Monday Report). He also features on the Day Break - the morning show and is one of the presenters on Ramogi TV.
In December 2020, he was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) award by President Uhuru Kenyatta in recognition of his work in the media industry.
"I am elated to have been conferred, the Head of States Commendation (HSC) this morning. Congratulations to everyone who made the list. Effective immediately, if you don't add HSC when you call my name sitaitika," he said in reaction to the award.
