In life we all have a dream we wish to realise some day and whatever it may be, you have to be relentless in the pursuit to achieve it.
Along Thika Road, lies one of the most magnificent hotels, the Ruiru Rainbow Resort. It is located in Ruiru, Kiambu County. While travelling along the super highway, one can hardly miss to spot the towering building which boasts a unique architectural design.
The hotel is owned by Julius Kamau and for him, owning an eatery was always his dream. According to reports, the establishment is valued in excess of Ksh3 billion.
How the hotel came to be established is an intriguing tale. Kamau went to study in the UK in the 90s. He had the urge to make extra money so he resorted to working as a security guard.

With time he came to own a security agency in the UK that employed hundreds of people, offering security services to various premises.
He managed to raise Ksh300,000 and in mid-1998, he sent money home to purchase a piece of land that he would use to build the hotel.
However, the land acquired fell short of his expectations. "What I got was an abandoned, waterlogged quarry,” Kamau said during a past interview.
The land his brother bought was an abandoned quarry that had been set aside for use as a dumpsite by the Ruiru Town Council. To make it worse, the piece of land had no access to the road, clean water or a sewer system
He made plans for the construction of the hotel while he was still in London, He sent sketches of how he wanted the establishment to look like to the town council and sought their advice on a way forward.
Mr Kamau said that authorities were actually looking for ways to fill the quarry which had become a danger to locals adding that the idea of establishing a permanent structure was out of question.
He later approached engineers and architects who helped him come up with a plan that would address the water and sewerage challenges the land had. He then presented the new plan to the Ruiru Town Council.
Since the land was an abandoned quarry, Kamau decided to build an on-site septic tank. They modelled the hole left behind by mining and turned it into a basement with a water treatment and recycling plant.
Witnessing the transformation, the town council then allowed him to carry out the construction.
Construction of the Ruiru Rainbow Resort was completed in 2012 and the hotel was opened to members of the public on June 23 of that year. On June 23, 2021, the resort marked nine years of operation.
It is located 500 metres from the Eastern By-pass, 30 minutes’ drive from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and 20 minutes’ drive from Nairobi City Centre, with easy access to transport options and shopping destinations.
The hotel has 130 fully furnished apartments and a penthouse. It boasts 12 conference halls, 2 of which can accommodate up to 500 guests, while the remaining 10 can only house 100 people.
It has a rich ray of amenities and services that provide residents and their guests with an unparalleled lifestyle experience. Exclusive fitness facilities, outdoor swimming pool, and a recreation room for gatherings and events.
At the rooftop is a well-designed special restaurant with a broad view of Kiambu County and its environs. From there, one can also see Mount Kilimambogo.
Ruiru Rainbow Resort also has a helipad at the top, which allows VIP guests to arrive or depart from the hotel with ease if using a chopper.
