Azimio la Umoja Raila Odinga has announced that there would be anti-government protests every Monday until their demands are met.
Speaking on Monday, March 20 in Eastleigh, Raila stated that the Azimio coalition would not relent in their demands to the Kenya Kwanza government.
“Tulisema leo ni siku ya likizo lakini mambo bado. Tumeanza vita na kila jumatatu kutakua na maandamano na haitaisha hadi wakenya wapate haki yao,” said Raila.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on his part asked the Kenya Kwanza to release all Azimio politicians who have been arrested during the protests.
“Tunasema wale viongozi wameshikwa wakapelekwa Kimabu Road kinyume na katiba waachiliwe. Hii inchi ni yetu,” said Kalonzo.
The Azimio politicians were earlier blocked from accessing the Nairobi CBD by anti-riot police officers. The police officers used teargases and sprayed them with water cannons forcing the entourage to reroute to Kamukunji.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua earlier requested Raila to call off the demos noting that nearly two billion shillings have b lost during the demos.
“Quite a number of business people in the Nairobi Central District (CBD) did not open their shops and businesses arising from fear of looting and destruction of property having considered what happened in Kisumu where the Azimio people looted tents, chair and food. The Azimio people also threatened business people that they would loot their businesses and as a result, the country has lost almost two billion shillings in terms of business,” said Gachagua.
