Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli has urged President William Ruto to consider giving Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga a state role.
Speaking on May 1 during Labour Day Celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Atwoli said that Raila has done many things for the country and should be taken care of to avoid demonstrations.
“Raila Odinga has done a lot of things for Kenya since his youth, we recognize him as a Kenyan leader. The President and his deputy should consider giving Raila a role even if it’s the AU position he used to have or a chairman position so that he can get an opportunity to grace events.
“Let him not be pushed by people close to him. Some of them used his name to enrich themselves and we know them. Peace is of paramount importance to our children and the prosperity of our future Generation depends on peace,” said Atwoli.

The COTU boss also advised Azimio leaders to reach out to President Ruto or any other senior government officials for a truce.
“I know the President is a person who goes to church, Gachagua’s wife is a pastor, Musalia comes from a Christian family and Moses Wetangula is my fellow catholic. They are all forgiving leaders,” Atwoli added.
