An ENA Coach bus ferrying 48 passengers on Wednesday morning was reduced to ashes after it caught fire mid-journey.

The bus heading to Migori caught fire at the Nairegie Enkare area along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway in Narok County. 

The incident is said to have happened around 2:50am.

ENA Coach in a statement said the bus' front tyre got punctured while ascending a hill Suswa.

"Our experienced driver promptly stopped the bus to assess the situation only to discover that it had caught fire. Our crewmembers acted quickly and efficiently ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers," a Statement by ENA's Chief Executive Officer Richard Mogire read in part.

"We are relieved to inform you that no causality or injuries were reported during the incident."

The passengers were transferred to a rescue bus which was deployed to save the situation and enable travellers to reach their destination without further delays.

"We have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire to prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and experts to determine the root cause and take appropriate actions to ensure the highest standards of safety for our passengers," Mogire further said.
