Kivuti was shot and injured at the Makadara Law Courts on June 13, 2024, before succumbing to injuries on Saturday, June 15. 

President William Ruto has directed the National Police Service To ensure the safety of judicial officers at all times.

In a statement on Monday, June 17, President Ruto said confrontation, threats, or attacks of any form against judicial officers is unacceptable, criminal, and an affront to the rule of law.

“I ask the police to ensure the safety of our judicial officers at all times as they discharge their duties,” said President Ruto.

He pointed out that police officers exist to assure Kenyans of reliable security and should not abandon their role to become threats to the safety of the people.

“Under no circumstances should they abandon this essential obligation or ever turn from their duty of protection and become threats to the safety and security of the people. What happened to Hon. Kivuti is unacceptable; it should never happen again,” Ruto stated.

Further, the Head of State eulogized Kivuti as a firm and hardworking judicial officer who served Kenyans with dedication.

“We have lost a firm and hardworking judicial professional who served Kenyans with dedication. She still had a lot to offer to our country. I pray that the Almighty God grants you strength to bear this loss, and comfort you with divine solace,” the President added.

Kivuti was shot and injured by Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto at the Makadara Law Courts on June 13, 2024.

The incident happened after Kivuti canceled the bond for the police officer’s wife after she jumped bond and failed to offer a satisfactory explanation.

The officer was neutralized by his colleagues who were at the scene.

Kivuti was rushed to hospital for treatment but succumbed due to the extensive injuries on Saturday, June 15.
