The parliament on Tuesday elected 9 Kenyan representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly. 

The nine include five from the Kenya Kwanza Coalition as the Majority and Four from the Azimio side as the minority.

The Kenya Kwanza side is represented by Zipporah Kering, Hassan Omar, Mwangi Maina, Dekow Falhada, and David Sankok.

On the Azimio side, they will be represented by Kennedy Kalonzo, Winnie Odinga, Suleiman Shabal and Kanini Kega.

The campaigns that preceded the election were so intense. Many candidates pitched tents at the parliament buildings to woo MPs to back their bids.

Nairobi Leo has established that the seats attracted huge attention and interest owing to the lucrative perks it offers.

EALA MPs earn a gross salary of Sh1.4 million, an amount that is above what local MPs are paid.

Kenyan MPs earn an average of about Sh1 million.

The EALA MPs are also provided with a state vehicle to facilitate their movement.

While discharging their mandate, the MPs will be required to move here or there meaning that they will be entitled to some allowances.

To facilitate their operations each member country is required to contribute Sh840 million to EAC.

The EALA has a total of 45 members with each country producing at least 9.
