Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance is now mounting pressure on President William Ruto to reinstate subsidies, employ all trained teachers and ensure Helb is disbursed to hundreds of thousands of needy learners.
Through the National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, the coalition came to the defence of many poor parents saying many of them rely on the subsidies to afford basic education for their children.
Opiyo said they will ensure that the government reinstate subsidies even as schools are scheduled to open on January 23.
"To ensure no child misses a place in college, High School or university because of lack of fees, subsidies must be back," he said.
"The Ruto regime has removed the subsidies but insists strangely that fees remain the same. We are going to demand the full reinstatement of subsidies on education. We are going to demand a review of university students' loan regime to ensure that it is in tune with prevailing economic circumstances."

Wandayi further reminded the President that he is a beneficiary of various government intervention measures on education that enabled him to complete school and become who is today.
Like him, Wandayi told Ruto that many Kenyan children come from poor backgrounds just like he was hence they need subsidies to enable their parents to afford the fees.
He also said the Azimio coalition wants all trained teachers employed to cover the existing gap.
