A man and his wife on Tuesday evening died after they drowned in a Juja dam in a suspected suicide case.
The deaths occurred after their car plunged into the dam located in the Toll area within Juja in Kiambu county.
Witnesses aware of the incident say the two had packed the car beside the river and were having merry when the tragedy occurred.
It is claimed that the two had a disagreement that led to the man igniting the car and reversing it into the dam.
Those who witnessed the incident said they managed to retrieve the body of the woman hours after the incident but they could not locate the woman.
The woman is said to have attempted to rescue herself from the waters but she could not make it.
"We only managed to retrieve the body of the woman. She had tried to swim and had moved towards the bank but unfortunately, she didn't make it. We have already located where the car is and the man's body," Ngugi said.
On Wednesday, the body of the man and the car were located in the waters and an effort to retrieve both were launched.
They managed to retrieve the body around 11 am.
Some of the locals who spoke after the incident called on the relevant authorities including the Kiambu County Government to ensure the dam is fenced to avert more such incidents.
Residents said that the dam has become a death trap for locals and visitors.
The bodies of the two victims were taken to General Kago Funeral Home.
