Five people including a child have lost their lives in a grisly road accident along the Nakuru-Gilgil highway.

The accident which occurred on Tuesday morning involved two matatus belonging to Nairobi, Mololline Bus companies and a stalled lorry.

A statement by the National Police Service indicates that the two Matatus rammed into the stationery lorry.

As a result of the impact, five died while several were injured.

Police have launched comprehensive investigations into the matter.

"We condole with the bereaved families and wish speedy recovery to the injured," NPS said.

"We appeal to motorists and all road users to adhere to traffic rules by driving within the legal speed limits, refraining from driving under influence of alcohol and any other form of recklessness on the road."
